Specialist Notes
Astrological treatise of Argoli, published for the first time in the same year in Padua. Argoli (1570-1657) studied in Naples and became professor of mathematics at the Sapienza University of Rome in 1622. He was replaced by B. Castelli in 1627, perhaps due to his passion for astrology. In 1632 he arrived in Padua as a mathematics teacher at the University. Although a follower of the Ptolemaic school, Argoli was unable to resist Galileo's charm, inspiring him to write a treatise on the system of the world which he however never published for fear of condemnation.
