The model
The Citroën 2CV is not just a car, but it has written an important page in motoring history, becoming a legend. Born to move a country in the process of reconstruction, the 2CV soon became a lifestyle. The 2CV was strongly desired by the Citroën executive, Pierre-Jules Boulanger who, in the mid-1930s, noticed the absence of cars in the countryside and therefore decided to design a car for the peasants, giving the designers precise indications; the car, in fact, had to be economical, able to carry 4 people, have a good load space,  low fuel consumption and be able to cross the fields without suffering too much stress. At the beginning of 1939 the first prototypes were ready under the name of T.P.V. but, due to the war, the design was abandoned. Only after the war Boulanger decided to take up the project again, entrusting it to the Italian sculptor and designer Flaminio Bertoni. The definitive model of the 2CV was presented by the French company in 1948, at the Paris Motor Show. The first impact with the public and the press was not favorable, due to its unusual rounded and wavy shapes; but it took only a few months and the car became one of the best-selling cars in the world. A few months after its presentation, waiting lists of three years were created and, by 1950, production had increased from 4 units to 400 per day. Between one restyling and another, including mechanical interventions, the Citroën 2CV will be able to sell over 5 million units worldwide between 1948 and 1990. The 2CV also had an important sporting activity. It began in 1955 with the participation in the Mille Miglia, continuing in 1958 with the 24 Hours of Hockenheim, where the French company fielded two models in the category of micro cars, not to mention the Paris-Kabul-Paris raid, organized directly by Citroën in the 70s. The Citroën 2CV soon became a lifestyle, thanks to its retro but at the same time nice look, it was able to attract entire generations of enthusiasts, becoming one of the symbolic vehicles of the "hippy" movement.
The car
The Citroën 2CV A, with chassis no. 62967 is an example of 1953. The first 2CVs were also known as 2CV A and were joined by the AZ model only in October 1954. In 1953 the metallic gray color of the debut was replaced by a darker gray, while the steel wheels they were painted ivory yellow. In the same year, the emblem on the grille lost its oval frame, while detailed updates were made. A version almost impossible to find in Italy, the specimen belongs to great enthusiasts of the brand who, following a long search, found it in France. The car was complete and preserved. The car had belonged to a country priest who had made a prudent use of it; it was later bought by a private individual and kept indoors. In Italy, the 2CV underwent a complete inspection. The mechanics proved to be functional but to be overhauled, there were some restoration licenses on the bodywork while the original Scottish upholstery was in good condition. The floor was healthy, inside there were still original manufacturer's serigraphs and writings. The specialists Carlo and Giorgio Marchini were the creators, the machine was completely disassembled for a complete restoration. The bodywork was repainted in the original gray AC 118. Consultant for the restoration was Michel Dedieu, one of the foremost experts in the world of the 2CV. All the small details have been respected chronologically and philologically. The steering wheel, which was found to be black until September 1953. The original 375 cc engine with 9 hp allows you to reach 65 km/h. The 1953 model still has a canvas top that reaches the base of the trunk and also acts as a tailgate, in a only solution. The car is RIASC certified (Registro Italiano Auto Storiche Citroën), has Italian plates and keeps as a habit, hidden by the official plates, the old original French plates, painted directly on the body. The specimen, a true reference, has been the subject of detailed articles on Ruoteclassiche 7/8 /1998 and 2/2007 (cover car). The model, by age and type, can be entered in the most important regularity races for historic cars.
