Information

490mm
Torch of the 1960 Summer Games of the XVII OLYMPICS in Rome in the very rare version with gas ignition, among those used in the last kilometers from the Campidoglio to the Olympic Stadium, to prevent a possible extinguishing of the flame that would have compromised the opening of the Olympic Games.
Unlike the others, the peculiarities of this type of torch are the cylindrical cartridge/capsule (for the fuel), an additional circular flange, slightly concave, both equipped with their own screwing system to the body of the torch, and an internal power supply/ignition system that runs along the entire length of the torch, punched at the base (553 ?)

The inscription " GAMES OF THE XVII OLYMPICS " is engraved on the circular guard.

Designed by archaeologist Amedeo Maiuri and inspired by ancient Roman torches, it was produced by the CURTISA company of BOLOGNA, in bronze. The base of the torch bears the MF Curtisa Bologna hallmark, with its serial number 567.

Below is the list of the last torchbearers who carried one of these torches, as per the official report of the Organizing Committee: Sacchi Carlo, Sbernadori Mario, De Mohr Ugo, Trobiani Carlo, Covrè Giuseppe, Gatti Giovan Maria, Bigioretti Vincenzo, Bambara Francesco, Sole Italo, Bottoni Stefano, Di Ronzo Pierantonio, Peris Giancarlo

It measures approximately 490mm tall with accessories fitted, and is in excellent condition with normal signs of age.
