MAZZOTTI Trophy for the XXIV edition of the Mille Miglia in May 1957 , offered by the Automobile Club of Brescia.
Awarded to driver Giorgio Scarlatti for the III SPORT CATEGORY - Class over 2000 cc
The May 1957 edition was the last and most tragic of the Mille Miglia speed races. Held on May 11 and 12, 1957, the race was won by Piero Taruffi in a Ferrari, but was permanently stopped due to the Guidizzolo Tragedy. The Ferrari 335 S of Spanish driver Alfonso de Portago went off the road due to a blown tire and tragically ended up in the crowd gathered at the side of the road, killing 11 people (the driver, navigator Edmund Nelson, and nine spectators, including five children).
Elegant two-handled cup in silver (hallmarked 800 with diamond 1 BS, signed PETRUZZI E BRANCA - BRESCIA) resting on a turned ebonized wooden base.
Engraved in block letters with the addition of a red enameled metal badge in the shape of an arrow, bearing the inscription COPPA DELLE 1000 MIGLIA on the upper half of the cup. Engraved TROFEO FRANCO MAZZOTTI on the lower half.
The cup alone measures approximately 21 cm in height, the wooden base is 7 cm
