Information
Important correspondence between Benito Mussolini's brother, in his capacity as Director of the Popolo d'Italia , and the journalist Luigi Freddi, consisting of 18 letters, some entirely autographed, others typewritten with an autographed signature, and 13 telegrams.
In addition, more than 25 letters and various notes sent to Luigi Freddi by the Administration of the People of Italy, numerous telegrams, some of which supplement the editor's letters. These are mostly signed by Giulio Barella, the newspaper's administrative director.
The correspondence covers the period from January 1921 (Arnaldo's letter announcing Freddi's hiring at the newspaper) to December 17, 1931, four days before his death from cardiac arrest. The correspondence with the administration, however, spans the period from 1921 to 1940. The letters address topics related to journalistic activity. To name a few, Arnaldo asks Freddi to approach Pirandello about a collaboration with the newspaper, and invites him, should the famous writer decline, to remind him that "fascism and the president were excellent elements of collaboration for his great work." He discusses his relationship with Paolo Orano, compromised by the latter's ousting from the newspaper, and requests, through Freddi, an appointment with Semeria, etc.
