Angelo Roncalli was elected Pope on October 28, 1958, taking the name John XXIII. His pontificate, brief but extraordinarily revolutionary, was marked by the convocation of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965), which profoundly modernized the Catholic Church. His direct, humane, and open pastoral style earned him the title
popular as "the good Pope." He was beatified in 2000 by John Paul II and canonized in 2014 by Pope Francis.
