Information
A refined table sculptural group comprising two figures of young musicians carved in ivory with polychrome lacquers, arranged on a rectangular dark wood stand with a perimeter ivory balustrade. The left-hand figure, in a black robe with red and gold lacquer floral decoration, is carved in the act of gesturing with open hands in a gesture of accompaniment or song. The right-hand figure, in a burgundy robe with kamon motifs in gold, holds aloft a percussion stick and is intent on playing a cylindrical drum typical of Nō and Kabuki theatre; a small rectangular ivory plaque with a red border bearing the signature is applied to the wooden base
