Information

Comprising body, cover with figural finial and separate base; the body supported on four lion-form legs plastically modelled with well-defined claws and taotie masks carved at the base of each leg with eyes set in sockets; to each side of the walls, a large panel deeply carved in openwork depicting dragons entwined among swirling clouds. The side handles, large and in the form of dragon rings, are likewise entirely covered with scroll decoration and sockets. The cover is of stepped truncated-cone profile, decorated with lei wen and bands of incised beading, and surmounted by a shishi figural finial; apocryphal Qianlong mark incised to the bases and a four-character rectangular cartouche partially abraded to the body.
