The Virgin, crowned and haloed with a metal halo, holds the Child, whom she holds close to her face according to the traditional iconographic scheme of the Eleousa. The Greek inscriptions "ΜΡ ΘΥ" (Mother of God) and "ΙϹ ΧϹ" (Jesus Christ) are on either side of the Virgin and Child's heads.
