Information
pen, brown ink and brown watercolor on paper
306 x 208 mm live
The drawing is accompanied by a letter from Professor Pietro Toesca, dated March 12, 1943 and available in a copy, which attributes it to Jacopo Tintoretto.
However, the work seems more attributable to a painter of the following generation, in particular Alessandro Maganza, whose Oration in the Garden in the Church of Santa Maria Annunciata in Vicenza, features a similar composition. The elongation of the figures and the clear chiaroscuro achieved with the watercolor recall the drawing depicting Three Saints, a Bishop Adoring the Virgin of Loreto in the Morgan Library in New York.
