The painting offered in this lot is comparable to Solimena's prototype, of which at least three versions exist: one in the Salzburg Residenzgalerie, from which it differs in some details, especially in the physiognomy and clothing of Bathsheba and the maidservant on the left; one in the Richmond Museum in Virginia; and one, closer to the example presented here, preserved in the Royal Palace of Aranujez.
