Set on a rocaille-style base, this whimsical ensemble comprises twenty-one finely modeled musician figures and a lectern. The group includes: a harpsichordist, lutenist, Scottish bagpiper, guitarist, triangle player, conductor, cellist, drummer, assistant, harpist, side-drummer, soprano, violinist, oboist, trumpeter, two choristers with score, French horn player, flautist, transverse flautist, and a singer.
The model was originally designed by Johann Joachim Kaendler in 1753 and revised in 1765 in collaboration with Peter Reinicke.
Some examples bear remnants of a provenance label “L. Beltrami, Turin”.
With factory mark, impressed numbers, and numbers painted in gold and/or red beneath the bases.
