A rare nobleman's smallsword decorated with stones, first quarter of the 19th Century

length 100,3 cm.
Straight blade of diamond-shaped section and a lenticular-shaped tang. The hilt is made of polished iron or steel. The butt-plate is elliptical with a border decorated with notches, decorated on the hollow side with rays and petals made of copper bars edged with brilliant-cut stones. In the centre, a thick frame enriched with a circle of diamonds border the block. Quillon, guard, block, grip and pommel decorated en suite. With rosettes or bands of brilliant-cut stones. Grip and pommel also featuring segments with copper fullers and bars with frieze similar to that of the butt-plate. Apparently only one stone is missing. No scabbard. In the English style very popular between the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
