Marco Van Basten's autographed card, wearing an AC Milan shirt, published by Panini as part of the 2021 Panini Obsidian series. Numbered out of 10. Marco van Basten's arrival at AC Milan in the summer of 1987 marked the beginning of a golden era for the Rossoneri club and cemented the Dutchman as one of the most elegant and lethal strikers in the history of football. His impact was immediate. In his debut season (1987-88), Van Basten played a crucial role in AC Milan's Scudetto triumph, the first of many in that period. Along with compatriots Ruud Gullit and Frank Rijkaard, Van Basten formed a legendary Dutch trio that dominated Italian and European football for years. Sacchi's AC Milan, with Van Basten as their attacking fulcrum, became a goalscoring machine and a spectacle to behold, winning back-to-back European Cups in 1989 and 1990. His prolificacy in front of goal was impressive. Van Basten won the Serie A top scorer award twice (1989-90 and 1991-92) and the European Cup top scorer award once (1988-89). Van Basten also won the Ballon d'Or three times (1988, 1989, and 1992).
