Muhammad Ali (born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. on January 17, 1942, in Louisville, Kentucky, and passed away on June 3, 2016, in Scottsdale, Arizona), was an American professional boxer and civil rights activist. Widely regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time, Ali was a global icon and controversial figure throughout his career.
Ali dominated the heavyweight division for much of the 1960s and 1970s, winning the title three times and successfully defending it 19 times. He converted to Islam in 1964 and changed his name from Cassius Clay to Muhammad Ali. His religious beliefs and refusal to be drafted into the Vietnam War made him a controversial figure, but his charismatic personality and boxing skills also made him one of the world's most popular sportsmen.
Ali is considered one of the greatest boxers of all time, and his impact on the world of sports goes far beyond the ring. He has been a global icon and a symbol of resilience and inspiration to millions around the world.
