Specialist Notes

Introduced to the market in 1943, reference 1579 is one of only two chronographs ever made by Patek Philippe with form lugs (along with reference 591). By virtue of this detail, it has been nicknamed “spider lugs” by the collectors community. The oversized 36mm case was an unconventional characteristic for its era, wearing the wrist even larger thanks to the architecture of the lugs, as well as the wide bezel.Reference 1579 can generally be divided into two series: while models from the first generation (1943-1949) feature Arabic numerals and baton indexes with baton or feuille hands, second generation specimens (1950-1964) feature Arabic numerals and square indexes with feuille hands (the present watch).Rose gold models are the rarest produced for this reference, with to the best of our knowledge less than 90 watches known; the signature of the famous Milanese retailer Gobbi adds another layer of collectibility to the piece. The one-of-a-kind feature of this specimen is the presence of its original Patek Philippe and Gobbi boutique certificates of origin, that make it a true time-capsule: remained in the hands of the same family and consigned to us by the son of the one and only owner, who received it as a wedding present, the watch is obviously fresh to the market.
