The ancient attribution of Trivulzio's coinage to the Mesocco mint is now considered obsolete from a historical and documentary perspective. The reference to Mesocco in the minting certificates should be interpreted in relation to the fiefdom, not necessarily the physical location of the mint. Notarial documentation attests to the existence of a mint in Roveredo as early as 1497. Studies by Emilio Tagliabue and, more recently, by Costanza Cucini Tizzoni have also highlighted the lack of documentary evidence for a mint physically operating in Mesocco. Gian Giacomo Trivulzio's coinage attributable to his Mesocco dominion must therefore, based on current knowledge, be traced back to the Roveredo mint, traditionally also referred to in the literature as the "Mesocco mint" in a territorial sense.
