M. Bazzini and G. Girola (Le zecche italiane fino all'Unità, Rome 2011, edited by Lucia Travaini; pp. 611-614) identify a different chronology of issues than L. Bellesia in his Le soldi di Como, Serravalle 2011: the latter had reconstructed a fairly intense succession of issues but within a short time frame, roughly between 1245 and 1260. The Guide, however, hypothesizes that the mint had already opened in the 12th century and was active until the early 14th century. The chronology of issues is also different: the oldest coins are thought to be those bearing the inscription CUMANUS – presumably still minted in 1238 – while denarii and oboli with the inscription CUMIS were produced only after the death of Frederick II.
