A 326-page paper manuscript, 310 x 215 mm, written by a single hand, an interesting account of the instructions connected with the Coronation of Charles III. Splendid contemporary Neapolitan binding with calfskin inlays , gold decorations, frames, plant motifs, a finely decorated spine, abrasions, peelings, and defects.
Specialist Notes
On 20 October 1733, at the direction of Elisabeth Farnese, an expeditionary force was sent to Italy: subsequent developments led Spanish troops to attack the Two Sicilies. Charles, at his mother's direction, departed from Parma in February 1734, when he had just come of age and was no longer under guardianship. By 10 May he was in Naples. Montemar conquered Sicily on his own, and on 2 January 1735 Charles was able to assume the title of King of the Two Sicilies, without any numerical indication (also to avoid the swarm of implications that either choice of numeral would have entailed). On 3 July he crowned himself King of Sicily in Palermo .
