Information

Copper engraving mm 308 x 460 (engraving field), signed and dated on the plate, second state, in which the title is present, some very light foxing, within a cardboard passepartout.

Specialist Notes

A rare and elegant engraving depicting the Grotto of Matermania and, in the distance, the outline of the Amalfi Peninsula with the Gallic Islands. The grotto, on the eastern side of the island of Capri, was likely the site of the Roman cult of the Eastern deity Mater Magna.
