Venice, by Gabriel Giolito De' Ferrari, 1561. In 4°. Large woodcut vignette on the title page, brand on the colophon, 3 half-page vignettes at the beginning of each of the 3 books contained in the work, some traces of humidity, some stains, contemporary binding in stiff cardboard, some small losses and signs of wear.
Specialist Notes
The first and only edition of Dolce's only spiritual poem, written in ottava rima, the text is configured as an experiment in sacred epic poetry, in which reminiscences of classical Greek and Latin culture are intertwined with biblical material.
