Specialist Notes

"In Rome, I stay at the Flora. There's a scent there that can't be found anywhere else... delicious, wise, aristocratic." This is what Paul Valery wrote of this hotel in 1930, while a certain Federico Fellini would later jokingly declare, "I go to the Florae totus floreo." In the years that followed, actresses such as Rita Hayworth and Joan Crawford also frequented it, as well as personalities such as Cassius Clay and President Richard Nixon. A hub for international celebrities, intellectuals, and artists, the charm of the Grand Hotel Flora is felt against the leafy backdrop of Villa Borghese, at the crossroads of one of the most famous streets in the world, Via Veneto. The prestige of this Marriott hotel is evident from the very entrance: the façade is embellished with curved caryatids beneath the balconies, windows framed by pilasters and columns, and coats of arms of regal cities: Turin and Rome, Florence and Verona. (...) In 1905 the building was part of the land abandoned by the noble Roman Borghese family and then, throughout the 20th century, became the setting and center of some of the most significant moments in the city's history. (...)" - Francesca Lauri, Grand Hotel Flora the living room of Via Veneto , on James Magazine - online magazine, January 4, 2025.
