London, Davies, 1772. Large quartet, 295 x 235 mm. 3 volumes. Frontispiece with a fine copper-engraved portrait of Machiavelli, three folded plates in vol. II illustrating the Art of War, contemporary leather bindings, skillfully restored spines, abrasions on the covers. Ex libris Constitutional Club Library; Libreria Rappaport, Rome.

Specialist Notes

Esteemed edition, edited by the writer, literary critic and linguist Baretti (1718-89), who emigrated to London in 1751 where he lived for a long time and was highly appreciated in literary and artistic circles.
