Specialist Notes
First edition of this famous scientific work, a true milestone: it is an impressive encyclopedia of the physical and chemical sciences, both theoretical and applied. It was probably one of the most influential works in the spread of scientific culture in Italy during the 18th century. The author, belonging to the Congregation of the Somaschi Fathers (Rome 1710 - Naples 1782), held positions of teaching mathematics and physics in various institutions of his Congregation. Esteemed by the scholars of his time, he received the honor of being appointed director of the printing shop acquired by the Prince of Sansevero, as well as personal librarian. The plates that accompany the work are the work of Filippo de Grado, member of one of the most prestigious and influential families of Neapolitan engravers.
