Specialist Notes
Very rare original edition with a preface by Aldo Palazzeschi and ancillary letters by F.T. Marinetti and Armando Mazza. Le cocottesche, in free verse, with a preface by A. Palazzeschi, is the first Futurist work by Cangiullo and in it one perceives the Palazzeschian influence which at first was notable: from the articulated and electrified verse to the poetics of mocking amusement. But, conversely, even in Palazzeschi Neapolitan and Cangiullian suggestions remained entangled, from the etymology of Piedigrottesco. Certain Pulcinellesque sneers and jokes, certain Neapolitan refrains consciously flowed even into the last Palazzeschi, as in the "Doge" published in 1967.
