First and rare edition of Giovio's treatise on fish which, according to some bibliographers, constitutes the first book on the subject. Here are described the sea and freshwater fish that appear more frequently on sixteenth-century tables. The work gives indications on the scientific names of many species of fish with references to classical sources and on the most suitable fishing places for each type of fish. In this regard, the references to sturgeon fishing in the Canaries and the colonial possessions of the Spaniards are interesting: novas incogniti orbis terras inusitata. (America). Numerous suggestions are also provided on the preparation and cooking of fish both from a purely culinary point of view, and from a medical-dietary point of view, with the addition of numerous personal observations by the author that make reading this classic of fish even more enjoyable. ichthyology.
