Venice, Francesco Piacentini, 1738. In 2nd. Beautiful front door with woodcut figured frame engraved by J.B. Jackson in 1738 and whose cartouche bears the motto: Ex intimo sui surgit, frontispiece in red and black ink with woodcut vignette, initials, friezes and illustrations engraved in wood, coeval parchment binding with author and title within red Moroccan patch on the back 5-nerve, spray cuts. Paper ex libris on the counterplate, stamp of belonging to the title page.
Specialist Notes
Nice marginal specimen. Divided into 8 books containing the exploits of 12 emperors, from Julius Caesar to Domitian, with their respective portraits engraved in wood within large medallions.
