Specialist Notes

First Italian edition, translated from Norwegian by Prof. Cesare Norsa. & Nbsp; Nansen Fridtiof (Oslo 1861-Oslo 1930) was one of the greatest Norwegian explorers as well as a scientist and politician. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1922 for his efforts as High Commissioner for Refugees & nbsp; of the League of Nations. In 1893 he carried out the great polar expedition of the ship "Fram" ("Avanti") which reached the maximum north latitude until then reached 86 ° 13 'putting in place his brave and brilliant plan: to let himself be imprisoned voluntarily in the ice packs of the Arctic and then, with Fredrik & nbsp; Johansen reach the Polo with dog sledges. The "Fram" was designed, built and equipped in order to resist the pressure of the ice; it is arguably the strongest wooden ship ever built. Nansen achieved incredible scientific results and developed travel and survival methods that greatly influenced subsequent polar expeditions and contributed to their success.
