Specialist Notes
The illustrated satirical and political magazine founded in Rome in 1892, by Guido Podrecca & nbsp; and Gabriele Galantara derived his title from a famous motto of Guerrazzi: "as the donkey is the people: useful, patient and beaten". The social question, political malpractice, anti-clericalism were the main topics dealt with, in line with socialist ideals. The interventionist position taken during the First World War caused the Donkey to alienate from its reference readers causing a serious loss of consensus: the publications were interrupted in 1918. After a return to the press in 1921, L'asino was forced to stop publishing. in 1925 with the tightening of the fascist laws.
