Specialist Notes

A photo postcard of “Salutando” has a special place in the history of photodynamics of the Bragaglia brothers. In the catalog of the great exhibition on the centenary of futurism, in 2009, Giovanni Lista wrote that "the first document that testifies to the research is the photodynamics 'Salutando' printed on a postcard sent by Anton Giulio himself on July 8 from Frosinone" (Giovanni Lista , “Photography and its absolute”, in Giovanni Lista and Ada Masoero (edited by), Futurism 1909-2009, exhibition catalog, Milan, 2009, p. 330). The photocard in the catalog, although not an original photograph, represents a significant and extremely rare document on the market, published at the time on the initiative of the author for promotional purposes, both in a cultural and commercial sense. With these refined period reproductions, made using a technique in which the Danesi brothers had specialized since the end of the 19th century, the iconographic apparatus of Anton Giulio Bragaglia's fundamental theoretical volume, “Futurist photodynamism”, was also created. In this regard, the historian of photography Italo Zannier writes that this type of reproduction "is sometimes something more than an isolated testimony, such as the 'Danesi-Roma' photoengraving of the famous and very rare photodynamics by Anton Giulio and Arturo Bragaglia , published in the precious antique volume of the Publisher Nalato, Fotodinamismo futurista, in the almost impossible to find editions in 1913; they are images that form an essay ensemble with the text, almost inseparable, whose photographic pages I consider, moving me, as 'original' "(Italo Zannier, A scale of values. Notes for collecting, in Italo Zannier (edited by)," Fotostorica. The archives of photography ", n.2, March 1999, p. 10).
