Amsterdam, Francesco Halma, 1704 [but 1703]. In 2nd. Small eye, front door finely engraved by G. Vander Gouwe dated 1704, frontispiece in red and black with intaglio vignette, dedication, funeral portrait and 10 geographic maps double page out of text engraved in copper, light browning, more intense on some cards, slight blooms and scattered reddening, rare and light halos, Cc2-3 cards including the table on page. 205 partially detached, Ii2-3 included pl. on p. 254 slightly loose, contemporary parchment binding, defects. Stamps on the title page, signature of belonging to the end cap, probable change of date on the title page.

Specialist Notes

The maps include areas of Western Europe, Great Britain, Greece, Turkey, North Africa and the Holy Land. Charles Vialart (1592 - 1644), a clergyman belonging to the monastic order of the Foglianti of which he was bishop in various French locations, is known for having conducted an in-depth analysis of the political figure of Cardinal Richelieu, to whom he does not spare harsh criticisms < br>
