Born in Germany, Joseph Furttenbach (1591-1667) in Italy learned the profession of merchant and deepened his studies of engineering and architecture. After moving to Ulm in 1921, he became a city and public architect & nbsp; Architectura civilis (1628), Navalis (1629) and Martialis (1638) . The treaty is divided into 4 parts: the first dedicated to military architecture, the second to civil architecture, the third focused on the fortification of waterways and the construction of warships, the last part is dedicated to weapons , with splendid representations of cannons. & nbsp;
