Lyons, Giunta, 1569. In 2nd. 3 vols. in 2 volumes. & nbsp; Typographical mark on each title page with a bunch consisting of two lilies with flowers and acanthus leaves surrounded by a crown supported by two cherubs in a rectangular frame, initials and woodcut friezes, light browning, on several more intense cards, slight blooms and redness, some small spots, small woodworm hole at the upper white margin of the title page and at the lower white margin from n6 to I8 of vol. I, from 2r6 to the end of vol. II, to vol. III. first slightly loose issue, woodworm hole in the lower white margin of the first two cards and white lower exterior from 11 to mM4, binding of a later period in half parchment with author, title and tome number embossed in gold within a red patch on the smooth spine, ligature partially detached from the body of the text in the first volume and completely detached in the second volume, woodworm hole in the spine, abrasions to the plates, & nbsp; slight defects.
Specialist Notes
Cagnoli held the chair of ius civile at the University of Padua, earning great esteem and appreciation. The famous jurist & nbsp; Alberico Gentili, considered one of the founders of international law, cited it as an "example of solid science and broad culture, open to all disciplines". Many of his works refer precisely to the Paduan period: they deal with the basic themes of humanistic jurisprudence and highlight his prestigious role in historical-legal research activities and in methodological debates. Reprinted several times, the works were much appreciated and considered fundamental reference texts in the jurisprudence of the sixteenth century.
