Specialist Notes

Francesco Albizzi (Cesena, 24 October 1593 - Rome, 5 October 1684) was an inquisitor, theologian and cardinal, a member of the Congregation of the Holy Office, remembered for his tenacious and unstoppable opposition to Jansenism, having held a role essential in the drafting of pontifical documents against the spreading Jansenist doctrines. This work, in its second edition, was given to the press in order to refute the theses on the Council of Trent and the entire work of Paolo Sarpi, a great thinker with a modern spirit, enough to write on the condemnation of Galileo "The day will come, and I am almost certain of it, that men, from better studies, will deplore Galileo's misfortune and the injustice used to such a great man".
