Information

Venice, for Bernardin vinitiano di Vitali, 1518. In 8vo. Half-leather binding with corners. Spine with a gilt insert and decorations. Woodcut initials. Contains: De coniuratione Catilinae and De bello Iugurthino . Colophon on paper T10v. Title page slightly browned and loosened with handwritten annotations and restorations. Note the manuscript notes and scattered restorations, light reddening, and the presence of woodworms.

Specialist Notes

First edition of the Italian translation of De coniuratione Catilinae and De bello Iugurthino : it came out, exactly on the same day, in Venice, in-4° by Bernardino de Vitali and in-8° by Rusconi (Rusconi's printing is considered less beautiful and more common).

Haym, Libri rari italiani, 22-5: "a very beautiful edition in round type, and truly rare."
