Specialist Notes
Annie-Paule Quinsac writes about this fascinating painting: "The work, unpublished, is a study from life with figures in eighteenth-century style inserted in the light of the atelier. Made therefore in the second Turin period at the Albertina, the painting reveals a careful reinterpretation of Fontanesi, without forgetting the lesson of Piccio". The chromatic range used by Ranzoni is truly surprising, as he is already beginning to highlight his skills as an accomplished painter despite his very young age; the French treatment is also striking, certainly known through the conquests of Fontanesi.
