Auction details

Finarte’s upcoming auction of Old Master Paintings on May 28 features a rich catalog of nearly 300 lots divided into two sessions.

The sale features a collection of works (lots 149–203) from an important Lombard residence belonging to a passionate collector of Venetian art, tracing a refined journey through 18th-century Venetian painting and printmaking.

Highlights of the auction include an unpublished work by Cristoforo Unterperger, Apollo Delivers Aesculapius to the Centaur Chiron (lot 281), an important example of late 18th-century Roman collecting, and a rare Portrait of the Thiene Family by Abbot  by Pietro Bini (lot 282), already known to scholars, which will be the subject of a lecture to be held on Thursday, May 21, on the occasion of the exhibition’s opening.

The Old Masters’ Department offers two annual sales, one in the spring and one in the autumn, for which it carefully selects works from the 14th to the 18th century, ranging from gold-ground panel paintings to Neoclassical oil on canvases, from Renaissance sculptures to drawings. The criteria that guide the choice are the executive quality, the state of preservation, the historical-artistic importance of the artworks, favouring the origin from private properties to offer collectors and enthusiasts original and high-quality lots.

The works are presented in the catalogue in an accurate historical-critical manner, valorizing the individual lots to ensure their visibility and the best possible sale’s result.
