The painting has been declared of particularly important artistic and historical interest, pursuant to Law 1089/39, by the Ministero per i Beni Culturali e Ambientali on 23 January 1986.

L'opera, che si trovava nella Villa Pasini Canera di Salasco fino al 1986, apparve in questo anno sul mercato antiquario in un'asta Finarte, in occasione della quale fu dichiarata di notevole interesse storico-artistico da parte del Ministero per i Beni Culturali e Ambientali per la sua eccezionale qualità e per la sua sicura autografia.

Databile intorno agli anni '40 del Settecento, il dipinto mostra forti affinità stilistiche con la figura del Sant'Andrea presente nella pala commissionata al pittore nel 1739 per la chiesa di Sant'Andrea a Cortona, raffigurante la Sacra Famiglia con Sant'Andrea e San Giovanni Evangelista. Significative analogie, sia nella posa e nella fisionomia del santo sia nello stile, si riscontrano anche con l'Abramo del Sacrificio di Isacco nella Collezione Thyssen-Bornemisza, oggi in deposito al Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (inv. n. 318).
