Auction details
In 1973, Cleto Munari met architect Carlo Scarpa. This encounter gave rise to a unique creative journey, culminating in the founding of the Cleto Munari company, a veritable laboratory of ideas where some of the most important architects and designers of the 20th century—from Ettore Sottsass to Gio Ponti, from Vico Magistretti to Achille Castiglioni – created visionary and refined objects, initially in silverware, jewelry, and watchmaking, and then expanding into glass, ceramics, writing instruments, furniture, carpets, and leather.
In 1985, the famous Jewelry Collection took shape, consisting of about 250 creations made in collaboration with architects, artists, and designers called upon to explore a language that was new to them but full of charm. The result of total creative freedom, these works are now considered among the finest examples of contemporary jewelry and are housed in the permanent collections of world-renowned museums such as MoMA and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
All the lots in this catalog are artist’s prototypes, unique pieces.
