Original painting made by Davis in the early 70s commissioned by Giorgio Soavi for a Christmas book by Olivetti, of which he was creative director. Painter, illustrator and great American portraitist, he was among the young talents of the famous Push Pin Studios. << I have never believed that an image must be photographic to be realistic. For me, realism in a poster is being faithful to the emotional sensitivity and meaning of the action. It is not a question of how perfectly a face is rendered, or of capturing all the pores of a nose. It is creating in the observer a feeling of empathy for the face on the poster. >> Signed.
