Since the 1930s the Milanese photographer and abstractionist painter Luigi Veronesi had been making off-camera images like the one shown here, placing translucent objects on photographic paper that were then impressed simply by light. It was Veronesi's habit not to make unique works, but negatives from which he could print further series in the following years.
