It is 1940 and, as always, the art director of 'Vogue' Mehemed Fehmy Agha is looking for an original cover for the August issue. Gone are the days when the cheaper option of black and white was preferred and eight years have passed since Steichen inaugurated the first colour cover with an image of a girl in costume. It was from here that Agha chose a classy pairing: a great and refined photographer like Horst and the then most famous model, the Swedish Lisa Fonssagrives, who ten years later would marry Irving Penn. Against a neutral background against which her blue swimming costume could stand out, Horst asked her to assume strange postures, each of which could make up the five letters of the magazine's name. The result was one of the most famous covers in Vogue's albeit extraordinary history.S. Brown (edited by), Horst P. Horst, Paci Contemporary, ed. Silvana Editoriale, Milan, 2018, p. 63
