Selection of 100 drawings from the Resta Codex preserved intact at the Ambrosiana, composed at the end of the 17th century by Father Sebastiano Resta and acquired by the Milanese library in 1706, a famous collection of 280 drawings by old Italian masters . Facsimile reproduction of size and color, of great quality and perfect result.
Specialist Notes
A sumptuous and magnificent art edition printed in 2,030 numbered copies, this one numbered 704, featuring drawings by Leonardo da Vinci, Andrea Mantegna, Giovanni Bellini, Botticelli, Piero della Francesca, Correggio, Tintoretto, Nicolas Poussin, and others. The Resta Codex is a collection of drawings unprecedented in its typology, quality, and quantity of subjects, and unmatched in the future: original drawings, sketches, studies, and miniatures by the greatest artists of the preceding eras, especially those who marked the 17th century. Resta dubbed this extraordinary anthology the "Portable Gallery," a true traveling museum that traces the history of Italian art from Giotto to his own day, with drawings by "the leaders of the four schools: ancient Florentine, ancient and modern Roman, ancient Lombard, ancient and modern Venetian." A splendid example.
