Parchment manuscript of 128 pp., 150 x 210 mm., finely decorated frontispiece, loss in the lower margin and ancient stamp at the top right, full leather binding with pontifical arms and Barberini coat of arms on the lower cover, contemporary copy of the Statutes preserved at the State Archives of Rome, shelfmark Stat.0172/4 and 312.

Specialist Notes

The Ropemakers' University of Rome was an ancient artisan guild ( universitas ) active in Rome, dedicated to the production of ropes. Historical documents, including statutes from 1642 preserved in the State Archives, testify to the existence and organization of this Venerable University and Company. This volume collects various versions of the Statutes, from 1642 to 1811.
