Provenance
Italian private collection from the second half of the nineteenth century; and came by inheritance to the current owners.
This unrecorded painting on copper is a replica of the Nativity by Joos van Cleve, Copenhagen, Statens Museum for Kunst (inv . N. KMSsp2).
There is another version in Dresden, Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden (inv.no.810), attributed to Max Friedländer to Joos van Cleve and his son, Cornelis. (see M. Friedländer, Early Netherlandish Painting , IXa, Leiden-Brussels, 1972, nr. C.1).
