Released in Japan on March 5, 1997, officially titled Extension Issue 2: Pokémon Jungle (ポケモンジャングル), this set was the very first expansion following the legendary Base Set. While Base Set laid the foundation for the game, Jungle transported players and collectors to the green heart of the Pokémon world, introducing iconic creatures from the first generation that had been excluded from the first release. Jungle is famous for introducing most of the Grass-type and Bug-type Pokémon, as well as the missing evolutions of Eevee. Among the most sought-after pieces were: Scyther (No. 123), one of the strongest cards in the metagame at the time and featuring extraordinary dynamic artwork; The "Eeveelutions"—Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon—make their TCG debut with three spectacular holographic artworks by Mitsuhiro Arita and Kagemaru Himeno; Kangaskhan (No. 115), a lethal tank in competitive play in the 1990s; and Snorlax (No. 143), featuring the iconic artwork of the Lazy Pokémon slumbering blissfully in the middle of the forest. Today, the Japanese Jungle set is a cornerstone of vintage collecting. Being a relatively small set (48 cards, including 16 Holo), completing it is a stimulating and accessible challenge compared to other, more massive sets. Condition: LP/Played.
