Provenance

The model
The Ducati Scramblers form a range of motorcycles produced from 1962 to 1976. The 1st Scrambler series were derived from the "Diana" range and, subsequently, from the "Mark 3" range, keeping the engines almost unchanged, but with chassis suitable for light off-road vehicles. Scrambler style motorcycling had taken root in many US states in the second half of the 1950s. The new Ducati Scrambler OHC 250 model, intended exclusively for the US market, achieved a moderate sales success. From 1965 the model started to be distributed also in Italy and from 1967 it was also offered in the "350" version. The design of the 2nd series began in 1966 and the prototypes were tested extensively on all types of terrain by Bruno Spaggiari. For series production, which began in late spring 1968, the model was characterised by an appearance designed by Leopoldo Tartarini, and by some high quality components, such as the Marzocchi telescopic fork and Borrani rims. Paintwork in bright tones, coupled with chromed mirrors on the tank, had a remarkable visual impact. But Ducati then had to deal with Japanese-made scrambler models. In Europe, the range went on sale at the beginning of 1969 and the new "Scrambler" achieved such a success that it put production in crisis, which was partially entrusted to the Spanish subsidiary Mototrans. Continuously updated, the "Scrambler" range maintained a steady level of orders until 1972. Production ended in 1976.
The motorbike
Ducati Scrambler, chassis no. 254976 is a 250 cc model from 1973. It comes from the Saottini Collection. The paintwork is in typical yellow and perfectly preserved from the visual point of view, in all its components, including the saddle. The mechanical part, i.e. engine, gearbox, clutch, brakes, transmission, suspension have been regularly serviced. The bike is therefore in perfect condition. The odometer indicates just over 9700 km. The tires are of the correct size and appear to be new. The motorcycle has its original Italian plates (Cremona), from 1973 and the first registration booklet.
State of the art
Preserved, in excellent condition.
