Information
In the 18th century, particularly after 1750, trade between Europe and the Levant expanded significantly. The Meissen manufacture, already engaged in imitating and reinterpreting Asian stylistic models, adapted forms and decorations to Ottoman taste and to the mercantile networks of Smyrna, Constantinople, and the Balkans. The competition and influx of German porcelain also encouraged the revival of the ceramic production center of Kütahya in Anatolia as a local response.
