Il dipinto costituisce uno studio (o un ricordo) per la figura dell'apostolo, a destra, dell' Assunzione della Vergine nella chiesa di San Carlo Borromeo a Vienna. Di questa pala d'altare sono anche noti due bozzetti, uno a Budapest (Museo delle Belle Arti) ed uno a Praga (Narodni Galerie). La figura dell'apostolo, offerta nel lotto, è stilisticamente più vicina all' esemplare di Praga ma è caratterizzata, come tutte le altre versioni, da un forte patetismo e un sicuro effetto scenico.
