Information
[1575] Hand-watercoloured copper engraving, 323 x 451 mm, textual description on the back, some small tears without loss on the white margin, very light browning.
Specialist Notes
A beautiful bird's-eye view engraving depicting the fortified city of Vlissingen, highlighting the urban layout, defenses, and the intense naval traffic between the docks and the inner basin, taken from "Civitates orbis terrarum" by Georg Franz Braun and Frans Hogenberg. Founded as a fishing village, the city obtained urban status in 1315. Thanks to its strategic location near Antwerp, it became a major port in the Netherlands.
